Colchester Castle & Year 3
On Wednesday, Year 3 descended on Camulodunum (modern-day Colchester), the Roman capital of Britain. It is one of the largest castles built by the Normans, constructed on the foundations of the Temple of Claudius.
Our fascinating day included: exploring and interacting with displays and exhibits; completing worksheets based on our learning; chariot racing; dressing up as Iron Age people in a roundhouse; becoming Roman soldiers, equipped with shields and helmets; visiting the castle prison; constructing a roundhouse and a Roman villa in teams; storytelling in the vaults; and more!
We were ever so proud of our children, who behaved beautifully, worked fantastically in teams and groups and embraced every element of the day. As I type, one of the children has come to tell me, “I love history.” How wonderful!
