Year 3
The children are working brilliantly. Thank you for supporting them with reading, maths targets and handwriting – your input makes a huge difference!
We have moved to the next stage in division, away from using arrays, to using number lines. Division can be tricky, so it is really important that children practise timetables as much as possible to support them in this. We are looking forward to reading fairy tales told from alternative perspectives, which were planned this week. Stories were also told in music this week, through movement.
Designs for castles are underway in DT, future goals have been planned in PSHE and the cross as a symbol of love or sacrifice has been discussed in RE. This week’s science investigation was about how shadows form and change when a light source moves.
The week ended in death and destruction (Boudicca’s rebellion against the Roman Empire) – we hope the weekend is much more peaceful!
Year 4
This week, Year 4 have been busy multiplying and dividing by powers of ten in maths, writing formal arguments in English and thinking about the body’s digestion in Science. This is without mentioning all of our earth-shattering discoveries in geography about volcanoes and earthquakes and, beginning our Art topic on sculpture. Learning behaviour has really improved throughout the week, so a big well done from me and the year 4 team. Let’s keep working together to support all the hard work and progress.’

Year 5
Oh, it’s been chilly this week!
The children have written some brilliant conversations this week, imagining the devious plot created by Juliet and Friar Laurence halfway through Romeo and Juliet. They had so much to remember while writing these: correct speech punctuation, new speaker, new line, capitals to start direct speech, punctuation to end speech all while making sure it made sense and was entertaining! I really enjoyed reading them. In Maths, we have continued learning about money, with a focus on giving change.
The meeting about the Horstead residential is at 3:20 on Monday in the hall. It would be great to see you there!
Year 6
In science, the children were learning about Charles Darwin, and what he discovered as part of his adventure around the Galapagos Islands. They read, specifically about the demise of Galapagos Tortoise and how some viewed Darwin's tortoise as a 'celebrity pet'.
In maths, we have continued to apply the rules of addition, multiplication, division and subtraction to calculating with decimals. We have also been practising converting between fractions, decimals and percentages.
In English, we have been writing newspaper articles based on the Giant's Necklace, practising using the subjunctive form.
In geography, we have been learning about how coastlines change as a result of coastal erosion, examining how arches, caves, stack and stumps are formed. We also learnt about why some parts of the coastline are eroding at greater pace than others.
In RE, we were learning about the exodus from Egypt and why Moses is so revered in Judaism.
In PSHE, we have been learning about the effects of smoking on the whole body.
Homework this week is to apply what we have learnt. I will, as always, be on hand Monday lunchtime, should anyone need some help.
