A message from Mrs Shipp

We have the usual newsletter up and running again - thank you for your patience with this and other website issues.

It has been a lovely week in school. We began the week with photographs, and ended it with a cake sale. There was lots of learning in between, of course! We are all settling into the new layout, but we still walk into the wrong rooms in the office end of the school!

It was lovely to see so many parents and carers at parents' evening this week - thank you for coming. Remember, if you have any concerns about your child, we are here to help.

A reminder about car parking: drivers must not park outside of bays. A black car caused significant congestion last week by parking outside a bay. This meant that other cars could not move around the limited space safely. It is a little colder now, but I would still recommend that you park in the village and walk to school to avoid the car park, which gets very busy.

We do not expect any extreme weather, but as it turns colder, it is a good idea to remind you of school closure procedures. In the event of a school closure, due to unsafe weather and driving conditions, we will communicate in the following ways:

- We will alert the local authority, who update their list.

- We will Tweet an update from @MoultonCEVC

- We will email all parents and carers

We always aim to stay open, and in the past, we have been one of only a handful of schools in the county to remain open on snowy days, but we have to keep everyone safe. Adequate staffing levels are essential for safety and safeguarding. It is one of the hardest decisions for a headteacher to make - I know I cannot grant everyone's wishes! I aim to make a decision by 7am each morning, so please keep an eye on your email and the Twitter feed. If we are open, and it is a snowy, make sure you send spare shoes / boots / wellies for your child - we like to allow them to play on the field in the snow.

Special mentions: well done to Maisie (Y5) and her friend from another school, who won their dancing duet section at a recent dance competition - good luck this weekend! Ben Bu (Y1) and Hunter (Y1) showed super resilience this week with their writing. Artie (Y6) displayed excellent manners and maturity this week - what a lovely interaction I had with him! Thank you to Sarah and Annie, who ran our PTA cake sale this week. Thank you to Yash (R) and Jamie (Y1) who have given me several really cheery hellos this week! Well done to Jessica N (Y5) who so confidently showed me her handmade pop-up book from a DT lesson. Well done to Freddie C (Y6) for a super attitude in maths this week. Thank you to Alice (Y6) who put lots of books away in the library for me last week. Kian (Y3) spoke so confidently to me about his aeroplane in parents' evening - well done! Well done to the whole school for the lovely singing in assembly on Tuesday. Well done to Year 6 pupils for their thought-provoking Remembrance Assembly, and to the School Council members for the excellent Children In Need information assembly.

I hope that you all have a lovely weekend - see you on Monday!

PTA Cake Sale

Many thanks to our amazing Reception, Year 1 & Year 2 parents, for all the lovely cakes, cupcakes, buns & cookies.  The queue for something delicious was long and windy, many thanks for your kind donations of both things to eat and money, to buy said things to eat!  The total amount raised has not yet been counted, sorry!

Individual & Sibling Photos

The proofs for the photos have been sent home with the children today.  Please note, ordering is done ONLINE only. Please do not send any orders to school as we cannot order for you.  The deadline for ordering is midnight on 21st November 2023.

Christmas Artwork: Cards, wrapping paper, mugs etc.

The finished artwork of cards, wrapping paper and mugs has now arrived.  As there is a lot to sort through, these items will be sent home with the children on Monday.

Year 6 Height & Weight Checks

The school nursing team will be here on Friday 24th November, to do the heights & weights of our year 6 children.

Story Time for Year 1

Today, our year 1 children had their first storytime with our librarians, in the library.  Jacob & Leo read 2 books. One was called Rumble in The Jungle, the other was Billy's Bucket.  The children enjoyed both stories and went back into class to tell Mrs Fiddes all about them.  Why not ask your child about the stories?

*****Key Stage 2 News This Week*****

Year 3:

What a wonderful week of learning! The children began using the expanded column method for addition and subtraction. Our method is on the school website, in the maths policy document, if you would like to familiarise yourself with it. There were lots of brilliant questions and enthusiasm in a double lesson about the Stone Age. We discovered how hunter-gatherers worked together to get food (you may hear about extracting marrow from bones and driving wild horses off cliffs, amongst other fascinating details). We are finding that managing and developing friendships is an area where a number of our children might benefit from support. In particular, we have been learning about how to be a good friend and what positive friendships look like. Finally, the children showed beautiful behaviour in our Remembrance assembly today, listening respectfully to the Year 6 children and observing a minute’s silence. Have a great weekend!

Year 4:

Lots of children are starting to use their known spellings more and more. It was lovely to see parents and guardians at parent’s evening to discuss and celebrate your child. In class, we have been writing with focus this week as we come to the end of a non-chronological report unit. In maths, we have moved on to a two digit by two digit grid method using place value counters as a mental and visual aid. Our partner and teamwork was incredible. We also demonstrated this in our PSHE circle time about similarities, and our Topic drama lesson learning about King Alfred’s rise to greatness. I will be considering altering when homework is set so that there is weekend time to complete it. This arose as feedback from parent’s evening. I will inform parents and guardians next week.

Year 5:

It was lovely to meet with you all this week. It's really nice to have an opportunity to sit and chat about the children and what positive starts they've made.

In English this week, we've continued looking at persuasion. Next week, we will be planning and writing a persuasive speech as one of the contenders for the crown in January 1066. We started with lots of Harold Godwinson fans, but I might have converted a few to Team Edgar. In maths, we have continued with our work on subtraction. We've subtracted 6-digit numbers and even solved some word problems. We've had some incredible progress on Times Table Mountain, too. Practice does make perfect!

If your child comes home asking for a mad plastic egg flippy thing, they mean these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Baker-Ross-FE353-Ladybird-Jumping/dp/B095CMSWMX/ref=sr_1_10?keywords=jumping+popups&qid=1699610461&s=kids&sr=1-10

We used them in science and all fell rather in love with them!

Joanne Rutter

Year 6:

It was lovely to share your child's achievements and how they have settled in the term so far.

It has been another busy week in Year 6, and some of the things we have been doing are-

-Finding equivalent fractions;

-Comparing numerators and denominators;

-Writing an imitation text in English;

-Investigating variables in electrical circuits in science;

-Learning about the allied world leaders in history;

-Developing netball and gymnastic skills in PE.

I was exceptionally proud of the children who volunteered to lead the remembrance assembly today.

Please remember our Duxford trip on Monday!

Nuala Gilmore

Newmarket Christmas Lights Switch On Event

Please do pop along to the switch on in Newmarket, next Friday.  The gentleman the article below is talking about is a Grandad of children here in Moulton!!  Michael is obviously a very kind-hearted man, who the residents of Newmarket are lucky to have in their lives.  Well done Michael, a fabulous role model for his grandsons.
