Year 6 Science morning

How are nutrients and water transported around our body??  Water travels via osmosis and nutrients travel via diffusion.

With the help of some jelly snakes, the children watched as they put the snakes in water and looked on as they grew in size, as the water passed into the snakes.   Coloured dye in petri dishes had gelatine added to them.  The dye diffused in each dish, except the one with the blue dye in it.

And eggs, they dissolved them in vinegar and put some of the eggs in blue & red dyes.  When the eggs from the red dye pot were opened, the "white" of the egg was red!!  But, the yolk, stayed yellow as its outer membrane is not permeable - who knew that!!  Mrs Offley thinks there are bigger molecules in the blue dye as the egg in the blue dye did not change colour. A brilliant & fascinating science lesson.
