A Message from Mrs Shipp

We have really enjoyed the glorious weather this week! A huge thank you to the team of helpers who joined me on Thursday to clear leaves in the sunshine—your support is greatly appreciated.

Today's newsletter is packed with important information: World Book Day, PTA events, a reminder about the Well-being Team competition, club changes due to parents' evenings, school transport for next academic year, and details about the Year 6 Leavers' Prom. Please take a moment to read through it and keep yourself updated.

We will be celebrating World Book Day next week after postponing it due to the Year 5 and Year 6 residential trip. Please see the details in the separate email—we look forward to a wonderful day of book-themed fun! Thank you and well done to the children who came to pre-school with me today to celebrate their World Book Day - they showed great patience with the younger children, as well as great reading skills, of course!

Our catering supplier has informed us of a meal price increase. From April 1st, the cost of a child’s meal will rise from £2.58 to £2.80. Angie and the team continue to do a fantastic job, and we believe school meals remain excellent value for money. We are pleased to announce that we have a new member of the kitchen team: Maria will join us on the 10th March - welcome, Maria!

We are looking forward to seeing you at your parents’ evening next week. All class teacher appointments will take place in the hall. Mrs. Barker will be available in her office. We will do our best to keep to time, so please arrive promptly and, if a longer discussion is needed, we kindly ask that you arrange a follow-up appointment.

A huge thank you to the staff who gave up their time to make the residential trip such a fantastic experience for our Y5 and Y6 children. Residential trips don’t just happen—they take over a year of planning, risk assessments, and organisation, and once on the trip, staff are on duty 24/7, ensuring the children are safe, happy, and making memories to last a lifetime (all while running on very little sleep!). It’s a huge commitment, and we truly appreciate their dedication. The children were lucky enough to enjoy some amazing weather, which made the outdoor activities even more special. Do have a look at the photos on our Twitter account to see the fun that was had - @MoultonCEVC.

Special Mentions:

A huge well done to one of our Year 4 pupils who achieved Grade 3 violin with Merit—a fantastic accomplishment! (See photo below.)

Four of our pupils participated in the ‘Elite Majorette’s Association’ competition in Clacton last weekend with Synergy, returning with an impressive collection of medals and trophies. Well done, girls! (See photo below.)

Oscar (Y4) continues to impress with his excellent behaviour, thoughtfulness, and kindness towards others.

McKenzie (Y4) demonstrated outstanding manners, as always, and superb communication skills this week.

Izzy (Y5) stepped up at short notice to present the ‘Writer of the Week’ awards in today’s Celebration Assembly—her thoughtful praise for each recipient was wonderful to see.

Penelope (Y3) deserves a special mention for her beautiful manners and lovely conversations whenever she hands me her tray at lunchtime.

Have a fantastic weekend - see you on Monday!

The clubs on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday will be outside.  Please bear this in mind, if the weather is cold, your child might need extra layers.   The dance club on Wednesday has been cancelled.  Friday's club will go ahead as normal in the hall.   Thank you

******Pancake Day Flipathon******

The children had a brilliant time on Tuesday morning, flipping their pancakes whilst being cheered on by their classmates.  We have never seen so many flips in one morning - they must have been practising at home!  Well done to all the class winners, a bag of jelly snakes is always worth smiling for!  Many thanks for your fabulous sponsorship too. An amazing total of £609 has been raised.  Brilliant!

Year 3

What a wonderful week we've had! Our Year 3 children have been working incredibly hard, and their enthusiasm for the Easter play is shining through. The rehearsals are well underway and the children are growing in confidence, especially once they have learnt their lines and the songs.

As the performances approach, we’ve sent home a letter with all the details about costumes, so be sure to check it out. We have asked for simple, inexpensive costumes, but please do get in touch if you have any questions. Thank you for your continued support – we’re looking forward to sharing this production with you!

I’m looking forward to updating you on your children’s progress and learning. This week’s English has included planning a character description of Hargl (a girl from the Stone Age) using the text map we have learnt and our weekly grammar task. We have completed some fantastic fractions learning using number lines and bar models to explore equivalent fractions.

Many of our children have progressed in times tables – the class is absolutely flying! In geography we used a compass and four-digit grid references to map a treasure island and find buried treasure. In art, the children created still life drawings of a can, using geometric shapes and light guidelines to create a 3D effect. The children created a story board for a ballad (the children seem to have good taste, as they really enjoyed Bowie’s Space Oddity) and honed their dribbling skills in basketball. We finished the week with a French game, following my instructions to find objects of a certain colour.

Have a lovely, sunshine-filled weekend. I am very much looking forward to meeting with you next week!

The year 3 team (Miss Murphy, Mrs Dobson and Mrs Troughton)

Year 4

What a lovely week it has been. The children's spirits have definitely been lifted by the sunny weather.  We have been very busy with our play practice, and it is really coming on.  Some children still need to memorise their lines and the song words. Please give them some support at home;-

Our learning this week;-

Maths - This week we looked at hundredths in decimals and have started to use the short column addition method.  The children really like this.  With Mrs Harper, the children were looking at shape and understanding angles as turns.

English - we finished innovating our discussion text and have started the research for our invention.  The children completed a fiction reading comprehension with Mrs Harper.

Art and Design - we looked at and discussed some awe-inspiring buildings and discussed how they were designed by Architects.

Topic - we recapped our Volcano work ready to move on to Pompeii.

Science - we looked at the different types of teeth, including the difference between carnivore and herbivore teeth.

Music - the children looked at some different genres of music and practiced their play songs.

I look forward to seeing you all next week at the parents' consultations.

Have a great weekend,

Mrs Chittock
