Year 3
As the leaves fall and the nights draw in, Year 3 are wrapping up a wonderfully busy and fruitful half-term! The children have impressed us with their growing maturity in all areas of learning and behaviour.
In English, they produced descriptive Harvest acrostic poems, using vivid imagery and thoughtful language to celebrate the season of plenty and sharing. In maths, we consolidated our 3x and 4x tables (please keep practising at home!) and completed an assessment on addition and subtraction using the pictorial method – we’re ready to move on to new challenges after the break.
In RE, with Mrs Chittock, the children reflected thoughtfully on their big question for this half term, while PE saw an epic (and noisy!) few rounds of dodgeball. In Music, the boomwhackers made one final appearance and the recapped their musical vocabulary with Miss Spinks. Design and Technology ended with children designing and preparing healthy, balanced wraps – grating, spreading, and folding with great care (and minimal spillages!). Please look at the photographs on our School News platform.
Our Geography learning concluded with a balanced explanation about why we import fruits and vegetables into the UK, focusing on Costa Rica and Indonesia. The children showed real understanding of the global links between climate, trade, and what ends up in our lunchboxes.
As we head into half term, the children have been reminded to stay safe when out and about – the days are getting darker and the weather wilder! Reflective clothing, torches, and a little extra care go a long way.
We are so proud of the children – their curiosity, kindness, and hard work have shone this term. They certainly deserve a good rest! Wishing all our families a happy and restful half term. We look forward to seeing everyone soon!

Year 4
The children have been real troopers this week. Even though they have been feeling tired they have worked really hard, I am very proud of them.
Our learning this week;-
Maths - The children have been looking at multiplying multiples of ten and noticing the pattern. With Mrs Murray the children have been looking at perimeter and length.
English - The children have invented our text to their own monster. They have come up with some great, and grisly, monsters and reasons as to why they are wanted. With Mrs Murray they worked on their comprehension skills.
Topic - The children demonstrated their learning this half term by writing about how Briton changed after the Anglo-Saxons arrived.
RE - The children continued with the story of Zacchaeus and looked at how his sins had changed him.
French - The children used an English-French dictionary to find words focusing on the masculine/feminine form.
Computing - Finishing their drawings they created using the pro-bots.
Dates for the Diary;-
Week commencing 10th November - Parent's consultations (booking information to follow from Mrs Manning)
Friday 21st November - Class trip to West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village.
Wednesday 17th December - Reading Cafe.
I hope you have a lovely half-term break. I am praying for the weather to be a little less rainy as I will be spending half-term in a caravan with two young grandchildren!! (I shall be coming back for a rest!)
Have a great week

Year 5
Somehow we have made it to the end of the first half term - it's been a long one. Rain stopped our walk to the church this morning, but we celebrated Harvest festival in school. I'd like to say a big thank you to those Y5s who volunteered to share prayers in assembly - you all read so beautifully.
In English this week, we have looked at Haikus and Cinquains. We've investigated the structure of these poems (and had a very interesting syllable discussion about the word crocodile!) The children wrote their own Haikus and Cinquains about space, and today have added these on to the space art work they have been working on in Art. Keep your eyes peeled for these when you are next in school.
In maths, we have solved some shape 'magic square' puzzles and calculated perimeter of 2D shapes. We even had a go at calculating side length when given the perimeter. We had to pay special attention to the properties of the shape - whether it was regular or irregular and if it was even a polygon and capable of having a perimeter!
In Science this week, we continued to investigate gravity. We weighed several classroom items with a newton meter, and then calculated to see how much force would be needed to move those objects on the Moon and on Jupiter.
In RE, we looked at some moral dilemmas and thought about 'What would Jesus do? And compared this to what we thought we might have done in those situations. Overall, we were very forgiving until it came to the scenario where a sibling had eaten your Easter egg!
Members of the CWC (Collective Worship Committee) led their first assembly this week on how to stay safe at Halloween. They spoke really confidently and the assembly was enjoyed by all. I'm sure they've already got plans for their next assembly.
Tomorrow is a PD day - don't send your children to school (unless they'd like to help tidy the art cupboard and do paperwork!)
Dr Matthew Bothwell will (fingers crossed) be coming in to visit us on Monday, 3rd November. If your child has one of his books, they can bring it in and he will sign it.
Have a wonderful half term - stay safe!

Year 6
This week, Year 6 have been fully immersed in their learning across a range of subjects. In Science, the children explored how periscopes work and even had the opportunity to design and make their own.
In English, we analysed tone, mood, and atmosphere in a selection of war poems, before using these techniques to write our own Ottava Rima poems capturing the experiences of soldiers on the battlefield.
In maths, our focus has been on finding the highest common factor (HCF) and lowest common multiple (LCM), applying these skills to a variety of problem-solving challenges.
In history, we have investigated the development of weaponry during World War I, considering how technological innovations influenced the course of the war.
In computing, the children were learning to programme Microbits to play rock, paper, scissors which was great fun!
Finally, in RE, we have explored Christians learn messages of good news from the Bible, thinking in particular about the sermon on the mount.
The weather won against us today, so we had the harvest festival in school - it was still a lovely occasion.
Have a super half term.
