A message from Mrs Shipp

It was lovely to see our Y5 and Y6 pupils return this afternoon - we have missed them, whilst they were in Horstead. There are some photos on our Twitter account - take a look! We will add some to our website next week too.

Reverend Chris talked to the children about Simeon and Anna in this week's collective worship. We thought about rescuing people in relation to Jesus, and the types of rescues with which our children would be familar - air ambulance, coastguard etc.

Our Chair Of Governors, Mr Logan, and I were delighted to attend Reverend Chris' Institution, Induction and Installation as Team Rector for Forest Heath at Gazeley Church this week. We extend our warmest wishes and congratulations to Reverend Chris for securing his new role. Don't worry - he will still lead collective worship fornightly in school. Thank you to Maddie in Y4 for attending with her family.

Please do try and support our friends at Moulton Pre-School for their spring disco - see poster below. There is also information on Easy Fundraising below.

Next week is our last week before the half-term break. There is a poster below with details for our after-school club's sessions that week.

Mrs Chittock, our Y2 teacher, is due to have an operation on 14th February, which requires several weeks' recovery. Year 2 parents and carers will have received a separate email this afternoon.

After the half-term break, there will be parents' evenings. Mrs Manning will be in touch shortly with booking arrangements.

Special mentions

A huge well done to one of our Y2 pupils who achieved her junior parkrun ‘half marathon’ distance wristband in recognition of her completing eleven runs (2km x 11). She also set a new personal best at the same time! See photo below.

It was a pleasure to look at Maisie's (Y3) awards for horse riding. I was amazed at how high she can jump!

Mia (Y3) has received a card from His Majesty King Charles III and Queen Camilla to thank her for writing to them. It really is a special and beautiful card.

Thank you to Ben and Charlie from Y3, who made me a lovely card this week.

Thank you so much to Daisy in Reception, who has shown endless patience with me this week.

Thank you to Keira (Y2), Martha (Y4),  Sophie (Y1) and Peyton (Y3), who have all stopped and chatted to me this week when I have been in the corridor - always a pleasure!

Thank you to Lexi (Y3) and Cinderella (Y6) who showed compassion and kindness to a Reception child at lunchtime.

Well done to Aiden (Y3) for his confidence to seek help for a missing item, and then his excellent teamwork with me as we tried to locate it.

Well done to Camilla (Y2), Rupert (R), Lydia (Y3) and Jaxon (R)for their continued excellent manners, which I have again noticed a few times this week.

I am sure that there will be lots of special mentions for our Y5 and Y6 Horstead children, who will have overcome many fears, no doubt, and not to mention the cold and wet weather! The leaders said that our pupils showed great resilience and 'just got on with it' in the bleak conditions.

Have a lovely weekend - see you on Monday!

2nd & 3rd choice School Dinners

Our 2nd and 3rd choice dinners are very popular with our children.  We have issued a link as show below, to make the sign-up process easier for parents and carers.  For the 2nd & 3rd choice dinners please use this link: Here

Year 3

Although the week’s weather was wet and wild, Year 3 coped admirably and ended it fittingly with a bit of rainbow-watching. Learning behaviour has been great; we have given a few reminders about behaviour in the playground, largely around playing football.

We are sure you have admired the magnificent castles, with all their features, that the children designed and made independently. They have written kenning’s about themselves, read and answered questions about the blood-freezingly fiendish Starjik, as well as their weekly SPaG learning English. In maths, they investigated mm, cm and m, compared and added lengths.

We have begun to learn songs for the Easter play (do encourage practice at home) and have continued working with data in computing, composing rhythms to accompany stories in music and giving opinions about colours and animals in French.

Do remember, we round off this half term with our trip to Colchester Castle next Wednesday. We have loved learning about Boudicca, and cannot wait to descend on Camulodunum!

Year 4

We have been busy this week thinking about friendship in PSHE, learning to write dialogue in English and finalizing our perimeter work. We also explored food chains in Science and saw a real lion tooth.

Tuesday was Online Safety Day and, we explored online persuasion on apps and what to do if we have worries.

Thank you for all of the reply slips for the Jarman Centre on the 22nd and 23rd of April. Please get your child’s slip in as soon as possible so we can count numbers we are catering for and taking with us. We hope everyone can make it!’

Please get in touch about the maths homework if there are any challenges with it.

Many Thanks

Mr Turner

Year 5 & Year 6

The children are possibly quite exhausted from their 3 days away.  Hopefully, some photos will be added to the website on Monday.  They were all smiling when they came back into school off the bus, I'm sure they had a great time.
