A message from Mrs Shipp

We have to open this week's newsletter with a HUGE well done to our Year 6 pupils. They did incredibly well with the SATs - we are proud of every single child. Thank you to all other children who will have had their routines disrupted a little to accommodate the tests - Mrs. Marsh, Mr. Coldwell and Year 5 pupils had a ball, making bridges in the hall!

Don't forget: the Christian Aid coffee morning is at Gazeley Church tomorrow - I'd love to see some familiar faces! Thank you so much to Grace (Y4) for baking a cake for it. Miss Murphy would love to see some of you at the Snailwell dog show.

Our new bins will hopefully be delivered soon, but if you could remind your child about littering, that would be really helpful - thank you!

Special mentions

Well done to two of our siblings in Y4 and Y3 for some super fishing skills in the village - well done! (Photo below). The kitchen team would like to highlight Everleigh (Y5) for independence, manners and confidence - well done! Rupert (R) did some super writing and counting when we played at being police people during wet play. Mabel (R), Henry H (R) and Jordan (R) did some super role play too. One of our Y2 children  performed her acro solo to an audience of almost 600 people at the Apex in Bury st Edmunds - amazing! (Photo below)

I hope that you have a lovely weekend - see you on Monday!

Reading Cafe Wednesday 19th June

Our last Reading Cafe for this school year will be on Wednesday 19th June, starting at 9.10am.  We cannot accommodate younger siblings as the hall, corridors and classrooms are not big enough.  Thank you

Do join your children for an hour of story telling, arts & crafts.  Keep the date free, in your diaries!

A plea from the kitchen

Please do not sign your child up for a 2nd or 3rd choice, if he/she wants a packed lunch instead.  The kitchen team are doing their best to reduce food waste. A jacket potato that has been asked for, but is then replaced with a packed lunch, is a waste.   Many thanks

Learning Updates

The year 1 and 2 classes will continue with their weekly Learning Updates.  The older classes will have a weekly update here on the newsletter, as below.  If your child is in year 1 or 2, please click on the links below to see the class learning update:

2nd & 3rd choice School Dinners

Our 2nd and 3rd choice dinners are very popular with our children.  We have issued a link as shown below, to make the sign-up process easier for parents and carers.  For the 2nd & 3rd choice dinners please use this link: Here

Year 3

This week the children showed kindness and compassion with their behaviour and kind words when I lost my voice for two days. They have also been working hard!

In English, completing their persuasive writing and editing about marvellous Moulton village and writing sentences using prepositions of time, cause and place. In maths, we began to use the expanded column method to exchange, using dienes to support and learning about what angles are and how we describe them using turns and direction.

In science, we wrote up the findings of our forces investigation and explained why the car travelled furthest along a smooth surface and least along a rough surface due to friction.

In DT, the children designed their cushions. In PSHE, they looked at more ways to pay. In RE, we explored how to make the world a better place. In French, the children learned how to ask and give their age (Quel âge as-tu? J’ai sept/huit ans).

We saw the week out with a review of this half-term’s topic about our local area and some sunshine and singing! Have a lovely weekend. The year 3 team.

Year 4

‘This week, we have been focusing on calculations in Maths and showing great progress with multiple exchanges or when dividing into equal groups.

In English, we’ve been writing our own invent texts around a personal tale called ‘Cloud Busting’. This has really made us thinking about the themes of belonging, friendship and bullying. We are very proud of our writing.

To finish our Titanic topic, we’ve been beginning to create PowerPoint presentations detailing who we believe is responsible for its sinking. Other than this, we’ve built our skills with Samba music ( check out the website for photos), developed our ability to collage and, learnt about the different parts of the World Wide Web.

Finally, we’ve explored mental health as it is National Mental Health Awareness Week.

Do continue to talk to your child about their mental health and overall wellbeing. They will have the school conversations to support their understanding and vocabulary. Thank you for all of the ongoing home learning that you are doing with your child. Have a restful weekend!’

Year 5

We have survived our most challenging week! Even though Y5 weren’t sitting the SATs, they had to donate their classroom and their teacher for most mornings this week! It was nice to be able to go back to all our usual routines this morning! A big thank you to Mrs Marsh and Mr Coldwell for holding the fort so beautifully while I was otherwise occupied.

In English this week we have thought about how Oliver would feel when meeting Bill Sikes. We have watched some of the film for inspiration and have planned out a descriptive scene. We will write these next week. If the writing is as good as the plans, I am in for a treat when I read them! In Maths, we have begun to learn about percentages. We’ve learnt that 100% is the whole and this will change from question to question. We’ve also been introduced to the ‘bubble method’ – a favourite of Mrs Gilmore. This is a way of calculating every percentage you could ever need! It was lovely to see Y6 use the bubble method to great effect this week.

We are still working hard in our swimming sessions. Our confidence is growing, our strokes are being refined, we’re getting better at putting swimming hats on! Congratulations to our first set of children who completed and passed the Gold Award for personal safety this week. We also have someone the instructors have highlighted as being an incredibly natural breast stroker. Watch out Adam Peaty!

Have a great weekend!

Miss Rutter, Mrs Marsh and Mr Coldwell

Year 6
