A message from Mrs Shipp

Wow, it has been hot this week! We have still been working hard though - we do not 'wind down' until the last day of term...every lesson counts!

In Monday's collective worship, the Open The Book team told the story of Jesus and the fisherman. On Wednesday, Rev. Chris spoke about the feast of St. Peter and St. Paul, and why was Paul so special. Today, Mrs. Gilmore spoke to the children about Sports Day, and shared the story, 'Nadiya's Sports Day' - it can be seen here on YouTube. Singing was wonderful again on Tuesday - we are very lucky to have Mrs. Offley and Mr. Turner to enthuse the children.

Our diocesan bishop, Bishop Martin, retires at the end of February 2025, following his 70th birthday. The process is underway to find the next Bishop of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich. The diocese is keen to collect pupils' views about the next bishop. If you have a moment, please could you complete the questionnaire here with your child.

Thank you so much for your support with the bottle tombola donations. It was lovely to see the children in their 'own clothes' today. There were lots of England shirts, including me - let's hope they win on Sunday! Mrs. Moldovean will be cheering on Romania - good luck to them! Good luck to our Slovakian family and other families with their chosen nation in the final sixteen!

We welcome Phoebe and Ava to our Reception class; and Tudor to our Y6 class next week, as part of their work-experience placement.

If you haven't yet managed to read the Sports Day letter, it would be really helpful if you could before next Wednesday. Raffle tickets and refreshments will be served all day - we do not have debit card facilities, so cash will be needed. Thank you!

I'd like to thank parents and carers for their ongoing support with our fundraising endeavours - your time and financial support is very much appreciated. We would love to hear your ideas about future PTA funds spending. We will ask the children too.

Our lost property bin is overflowing! If you have a moment, please pop into the office and have a rummage. We will display items on Sports Day, where hopefully most of it will be claimed. Anything that is left by next Friday will be donated to charity.

Special Mentions...

A huge well done to Year 4, who impressed me, Mrs. Gilmore and our Local Authority Standards and Excellence Partner in their French lesson this week: behaviour was impeccable, and we were blown away with their speaking and listening skills.

Thank you so much to the many children who helped me to clean the picnic tables and benches this lunchtime; and also to the older children who helped us to move them.

Lydia (Y3) has earned a purple belt in karate - amazing - well done! Angie and Leanne would like to highlight William (Y1) for excellent manners at lunchtime, and when he gets a breaktime milkshake - well done! Two of our girls did a colour run on base - a fantastic achievement! (See photo below). One of our Y1 boys did really well with kayaking - brilliant skills and courage - well done! Thank you to Riley (Y1) and Hugo (Y5), who both asked about my morning this week - it's nice to feel cared for! Logan G-C (Y2) showed excellent communication skills earlier today, when we were chatting about bottles - well done! Rose (Y1) also did brilliantly with communication earlier this week, when we chatted about hats. Blake (Y4) was really brave earlier; and he showed great maturity - well done! Thank you to Bertie (Y4) for a lovely conversation about Kevin DeBruyne this week - he showed excellent knowledge that he had gained from reading.

I hope that you have a wonderful weekend - see you on Monday!

Summer Fair 3rd July 2024

The preparations for our annual summer fair are well under way.

Many thanks for your bottle donations. It's been great to see the children in all their lovely colourful outfits today, keeping themselves cool.

The hamper is looking great, the 2 tombola stalls will be jam-packed with lots of lovely items.  There are numerous prizes for the raffle, including a cash prize of £100.00, various vouchers, including some for Porters Lodge, South Angle Farm and a meal at the Pack horse pub.

Please can we ask for the cake stall donations to be brought in on Wednesday morning?  The items can then be kept in the cool during the day.  Classes that we have asked to bake/buy are Reception, year 1 & year 4.

We hope the weather forecast will be good for all of Wednesday. To have the sports day and summer fair all outside would be great!

Year 5 & 6 Aylmerton Residential 2025

The children in current years 4 & 5 are already talking about the residential trip next year to Aylmerton.  Many thanks to those who have sent the paperwork back.  If you are unsure about your child going away, please do come and talk to us.  The residential is always a brilliant trip, giving the children some fabulous memories. Please send the forms back if you would like your child to take part in the trip.  Many thanks

Special thanks to our Well Being Team

We are very proud of Omya, Ben, Erin & Elizabeth who ran the well being club this week, for our years 3 & 4 children.  Many thanks to them all, for giving their time to the younger children.

Year 3

We are over half-way to the end of this term and have been working hard. In this final stage of the year, we are doing all can to ensure the class is ready for Year 4. This includes the step up in learning. You may notice that your child’s spelling are becoming more challenging. It is therefore important that the children practise them at home so that they are confident and secure. Please do allow a little time each week to do this – it makes such a difference.

As I explained to the school in our celebration assembly yesterday, the children have really impressed us in maths with their first foray into column addition and subtraction, with an ‘exchange’ in units column.

In English, it’s been a ‘mythical’ week: planning and writing myths; reading and answering questions about mythical beasts; and composing myth-themes sentences using the past perfect tense. The children programmed animations in computing, created a Greek vase outline in arts and discovered Guru Granth in RE. In science, we chose appropriate materials to design a book bag with a reflective element. PSHE focussed on healthy eat and living, French on numbers 1 – 16 and history on Hippocrates as a doctor.

Have a lovely weekend! The Year 3 team.

Year 4

This week, we’ve loved writing our own playscripts. First, we innovated a model playscript before crafting our own linking to the idea of Titanic and class. In Maths, we have explored time and formal division. We will certainly return to both areas of learning.

On Wednesday afternoon, we had a great time exploring the different states of water through a range of experiments, whilst on Friday, we continued investigating what aided survival on board Titanic.

In computing, our focus was algorithm design and also, reflecting on the computational skills we were able to use. In R.E. we considered the role of the ten commandments and the giving of the Torah as part of our Judaism covenant unit. Of course, one of our highlights was our karate coaching sessions that some of us had never taken part in before.

It’s been great to see the children being so responsible with their sun cream in the heat. I hope that the good weather returns over the weekend.

I hope to see some of you next week at our Sports Day or Summer Fair.

Thanks

Mr T

Year 5

Rehearsals for our summer play are coming together. Children should be 'off-script' by now. We've only got one full week of rehearsals left before we perform it!

In English, we have finished our unit on formal letters of complaint. The children all wrote a letter about a terrible restaurant experience (some even decided that I was the owner of these terrible restaurants!) In Maths, we have continued our learning about geometry and angles, with children calculating missing angles of different quadrilaterals and triangles.

On Monday, we had a session with Adam, a karate instructor. The session was lots of fun and we got to develop lots of skills. On Thursday, Reverend Chris came in and led a Eucharist service for Yrs 5 and 6. We were learning about the Eucharist last half term, so it was lovely for the children to see it in action. Rev Chris and I are thinking of making it an annual event!

We had a very busy swimming session today. The deep-enders were working on their stamina and on lots of different strokes. They were up and down the pool all session! The shallow-enders had their first try and swimming a whole length, starting from the deep end! They all did so well, some were a little nervous but they all got in and did it. It was lovely to hear them all cheering each other on. My favourite was "You look like a professional!"

Next Wednesday is sports day and summer fair (weather permitting!) Thank you to those families who were able to contribute a bottle today for the bottle tombola.

Have a wonderful weekend! We're in for a very busy final few weeks!

Miss Rutter, Mrs Marsh and Mr Coldwell

Year 6

-In computing, the children have been developing their animation skills.

-The children really enjoyed the karate session on Tuesday.

-We have continued to rehearse - the rehearsals are going very well!

-In maths, we have been working on the concept of 'working backwards'.

-In geography, we have been learning about how globalisation has impacted access to goods and services.

-In RE, we have been learning about the 'three jewels' in Buddhism.

-In English, we have continued to read 'Chinese Cinderella', and have been working on developing our understanding and use of vocabulary.

-We have started an enterprise project in which the children are working in groups with a budget of £10 which they are trying to grow.

Have a super weekend!
