A Message From Mrs Shipp

It was wonderful to meet our new Reception children and their families this week. It was also lovely to see children visiting their new classes, and forming relationships with different adults.

There are fewer changes to the children's routines next week, with most of them involving just Y6 pupils. Please see the visual timetable below. This is displayed in school too.

We were sooooooooooo proud of our children on Sports Day. We saw so many examples of determination, resilience, sportsmanship, and comradeship. We also saw excellent behaviour from our pupils throughout the day.  I would like to highlight the Y6 pupils who helped with the Reception/KS1 Sports Day - they gave fantastic support to their younger friends. Thank you so much for following our safeguarding and safety procedures - it really does help us.

It was a pleasure to see so many people at the summer fair - thank you for your support. As soon as we know how much it raised, we will let you know. The bad weather held off, which was brilliant, having spent the last week checking the weather every few minutes! There are a few pre-packed cakes and drinks left - we plan to sell them after school on Monday.

Please could families pay all outstanding dinner money and breakfast club debts before the end of term. It would be really helpful (and quicker for you) if you could pay for dinners online here. Don't worry about which dates you select - your account will be credited regardless. It really helps us if families pay on time, so that we do not have to print letters and send reminders. Many thanks!

Our Y5 and Y6 pupils performed amazingly this week - their rendition of Robin And The Sherwood Hoodies showcased their individual and collective talents. We were delighted that members of our community, including Reverend Chris and Reverend Raul came to watch our dress rehearsal. Well done, everyone!

Our Y6 pupils enjoyed a delightful leavers' lunch (see photos below). Many thanks to Angie, Leanne and Joanne for such wonderful food and beautiful presentation.

We have spotted a few non-uniform items being worn, which we understand due to it being close to the end of the school year. Before September, please check uniform expectations here. We will continue to allow trainers as well as shoes, but we ask that they are black, please.

Special Mentions...

A few of our pupils completed the EACH Bubble Rush over the weekend, raising money for charity. (Photos below) Well done to all of these children - I am really proud of them. Thank you to Lottie (Y2) and Lydia (Y2) who made wonderful 'I love school' posters, which are proudly on display in the hall. Thank you to Erin (Y6), who has been very generous with her bracelet making for younger children.

This week: Y5/Y6 performances; Sports Day; summer fair; excellent behaviour and attitudes; fantastic family support - I feel very proud of our school and our community this evening. Have a lovely weekend - see you on Monday!

Summer Fair 12th July 2024

We have been blown away by your generosity towards the fair. The toy and bottle tombolas were amazing;  there were so many things to win!

Our personal thanks go to those who have been in to help with ticketing things, moving heavy boxes and tables, and generally getting involved in the fair for your children! Mrs Shipp and I are very grateful to you all.

We hope, in the new school year, to be able to form a new PTA team, with a chairperson/s and vice chair, treasurer and all.  Please do let us know if you would like to join the very friendly team.

Year 3

To follow...

Year 4

This week, we have been looking at position and direction in Maths, including the use of coordinates to describe translation. In English, we’ve been linking grammar and other writing to our class text, the Highland Falcon. We reconducted an experiment in Science that may have involved melting chocolate! We enjoyed some extra P.E. and began constructing the chassis of our slingshot cars alongside axles. We will design the body next week.

Sports day was fantastic. The children all did very well.  We have also had the  transition to our new class with Miss Rutter.

Please keep going with practising key skills such as TTR, Reading and Maths Targets until the end of the year. We are nearly there!

Have a great weekend.

Mr T

Year 5

It has been lovely to be back in class full time - even if it has been quite a busy week!

The highlight of this week has been our performances of Robin and the Sherwood Hoodies. The children worked really hard learning songs, mastering choreo and perfecting lines, so it was great for them to be able to perform it to an audience. The younger children in school were so impressed - some said it was the best play they had ever seen!

We had our final swimming session today. It's been so lovely to see how the children have progressed this term: either with their water confidence and safety or perfecting strokes and building stamina. Jane and Corinne both said how much they have enjoyed working with our children - I think the boxes of Celebrations helped!

In Maths this week, we have finished off looking at calculating the area and perimeter of compound rectilinear shapes. We've been working with some shapes with missing measurements that we had to calculate before we could find the area or perimeter. The children have got so good at reasoning around these problems - they were rather challenging!

Fortunately, we are in for a much calmer week next week. I can't believe it's the last week of the school year! Where has the time gone?!?

Miss Rutter and Mrs Marsh

Year 6

The highlights of this week are most definitely the incredible play and the outstanding SATs results.
It goes without saying that we are beyond proud of the children -their hard work has truly paid off.

There has been fun in computing; we have performed and performed; sports day has been practised and the end of year assembly has been practised too.

We were not able to attend Crucial Crew, but we have been able to work through the resources they shared with us. This has prompted a very interesting discussion.

I would also say that Angie and the staff in the kitchen were delighted with the manners on display by the children during the leavers' lunch.

We look forward to welcoming you next Friday morning at the leavers' assembly.

Nuala Gilmore

Robin & The Sherwood Hoodies

Wow, just Wow, what brilliant performances! We sincerely hope you enjoyed Robin & the Sherwood Hoodies. The children worked so hard during rehearsals.

Many thanks for coming to see the play and for your support of the children, helping them at home learning lines and songs. Many thanks too, to the year 5 & 6 teams. They played a vital role in this play.

Year 6 Leavers Afternoon Tea

Well, the year 6 children thoroughly enjoyed their Afternoon Tea lunch on Wednesday.  They had lots of yummy sandwiches, with trifles and little cakes too.  The tables were decorated beautifully.  Many thanks to Angie, Leanne and Joanne.
